Texas bake sale sparks racism protest

Tempers reached boiling point during a sale of baked goods at the University of Texas last week when the Young Conservatives student group attempted to sell cookies, varying prices according to race.

Asian and white men were charged the most for cookies, while Hispanic women and Native Americans paid the least.

The group argued in a press release that the bake sale was a protest against the university's admissions policy and: 'designed to highlight the insanity of assigning our lives value based on our race and ethnicity, rather than our talents, work ethic, and intelligence.'

Other students and social media users branded the stunt 'racist' and 'insulting.'

The men being sexually shamed and blackmailed online

Over the past few months, the BBC has been investigating a disturbing new phenomenon: the use of private or sexually explicit images to threaten, blackmail, or shame young people - mainly girls and women - in some of the most conservative societies in the world.

So-called ‘revenge porn’ happens everywhere. But across parts of North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia, photos shared on smartphones and social media have collided head on with traditional ideas about honour and shame, often with a devastating effect on people's lives.

However, it’s not only women who get shamed online. This investigation has uncovered a multi-million dollar scam based on tricking men into webcam sex, and then blackmailing them with the video.
