Mosul battle: Travelling with Iraq's special forces
Iraqi troops trying to drive so-called Islamic State from its stronghold in the country have advanced to the outskirts of Mosul, to the east of the city.
The assault involves hundreds of troops in heavily-armoured vehicles, together with tanks and bulldozers.

Texas bake sale sparks racism protest
Tempers reached boiling point during a sale of baked goods at the University of Texas last week when the Young Conservatives student group attempted to sell cookies, varying prices according to race.
Asian and white men were charged the most for cookies, while Hispanic women and Native Americans paid the least.
The group argued in a press release that the bake sale was a protest against the university's admissions policy and: 'designed to highlight the insanity of assigning our lives value based on our race and ethnicity, rather than our talents, work ethic, and intelligence.'
Other students and social media users branded the stunt 'racist' and 'insulting.'

American Airlines plane catches fire on Chicago runway
A plane caught fire just before take-off at Chicago's O'Hare airport.
The American Airlines jet had nine crew members and 161 passengers on board.

Battle for Mosul: With Kurdish fighters as they seize a village from IS

Supporters' joy as Oregon militia acquitted
The leaders of an armed militia that took over a federal wildlife refuge in the US state of Oregon have been acquitted of the charges against them.
A jury found the brothers Ammon and Ryan Bundy not guilty of conspiracy and firearms offences.
The militia occupied the bird sanctuary for several weeks at the beginning of this year, accusing the US government of unlawful interference in the affairs of ranchers.

Syrian family granted asylum in UK stuck in Lebanon
A Syrian family accepted for asylum in the UK have been left waiting for more than a year in Lebanon after their relocation plans were cancelled twice.
In a statement the Home Office said: "Not all referrals from the UNHCR [United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees] lead to resettlement in the UK... The decision whether or not to grant exit permission is a matter for the host country."

The men being sexually shamed and blackmailed online
Over the past few months, the BBC has been investigating a disturbing new phenomenon: the use of private or sexually explicit images to threaten, blackmail, or shame young people - mainly girls and women - in some of the most conservative societies in the world.
So-called ‘revenge porn’ happens everywhere. But across parts of North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia, photos shared on smartphones and social media have collided head on with traditional ideas about honour and shame, often with a devastating effect on people's lives.
However, it’s not only women who get shamed online. This investigation has uncovered a multi-million dollar scam based on tricking men into webcam sex, and then blackmailing them with the video.
