South Africa's second-hand toy rental market

In South Africa retail sales figures continue to decline, as prices go up because of the currency’s volatility.

Shoppers have become cautious and parents are increasingly looking for cheaper toys to buy for their little ones.

It is for this reason that Lyneve Pieterse and Sarah Brown founded the Smart Toy Club - a company that collects, sterilises and rents old toys to new customers. And interestingly, it is something that appeals to rich and poor parents alike.
